ASEAN Centre for Energy and Huawei Join Hands to Accelerate the Clean Energy Transition at SNEC 2025

[Shanghai, China, June 13, 2025] The ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and Huawei have further strengthened their strategic partnership during SNEC 2025, the world’s leading exhibition for solar and energy storage. This collaboration continues to focus on accelerating the ASEAN region’s clean energy transition through cutting-edge technologies and regional energy cooperation.

Dr. Andy Tirta, Head of the Corporate Affairs Department at ACE, and Rika Safrina, Senior Analyst of Energy Modelling and Policy Planning at ACE, were part of the ACE delegation attending the event. Dr. Andy presented the newly released 8th ASEAN Energy Outlook (AEO8) to Hou Jinlong, Director of the Board of Huawei and President of Huawei Digital Power, and Xie Qian, Marketing Director of Huawei APAC Digital Power. AEO8 offers a comprehensive outlook on ASEAN’s energy sector, highlighting pathways to energy security, decarbonization, and the expansion of renewable energy (RE).

While ASEAN aims to achieve a 23% share of RE in its Total Primary Energy Supply (TPES) by 2025, the AEO8 indicates that, under current policies (ATS scenario), this target is likely to be reached around 2030. According to Regional Aspiration Scenario, with the effort of power interconnection for ASEAN Power Grid, it can drive Solar PV capacity by 35.5% which is equivalent to 118GW by 2050. To ensure a more stable and reliable power supply across the ASEAN region with high Renewables penetration, integrating BESS with grid-forming inverters enhances grid stability, allowing batteries to play an active role in maintaining grid frequency and voltage stability. This underscores the importance of enhancing policy support and regional collaboration to meet ASEAN’s clean energy goals.

At the event, Dr. Andy emphasized the importance of industry partnerships to bridge the gap between policy planning and practical energy solutions. "By working closely with technology providers like Huawei, we can bridge the gap between policy planning and practical implementation—especially in critical areas such as smart grid development, distributed energy deployment, and cross-border power connectivity,” said Dr. Andy during his engagement with Dr. Fang Liangzhou, President of Marketing and Sales Service Strategy & Marketing Dept, Huawei Digital Power.

Dr. Fang expressed Huawei’s ongoing commitment to supporting ASEAN countries in their pursuit of energy transition goals, stressing the importance of regional cooperation and technological innovation in driving clean energy solutions.

Advancing Regional Energy Goals Together

The engagement at SNEC 2025 marked another milestone in the growing partnership between ACE and Huawei. Both parties expressed their intent to deepen their collaboration through technical forums, joint research, and pilot demonstrations, all designed to support ASEAN Member States in achieving the goals outlined in the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC).
